NGFS Governance Structure

The organisational structure of the NGFS relies on the NGFS Plenary, the NGFS Steering Committee, the working groups, the Chair and Vice-Chair and the Secretariat.

The NGFS organizational structure is as follows :

The NGFS relies mostly on workstreams, taskforces and expert networks which provide deliverables and insights to the Steering Committee and the NGFS Plenary.

The NGFS Plenary

The NGFS Plenary is composed of representatives of all NGFS Members and Observers. It appoints the NGFS Chair and Vice-Chair, approves the work programme of the NGFS and the admission of new NGFS Members and Observers and decides on any matter pertaining to the functioning of the NGFS. Decisions by the NGFS Plenary are taken by consensus.

The NGFS Steering Committee

The NGFS Steering Committee is the executive body of the NGFS. It is, inter alia, in charge of preparing the NGFS strategy for the Plenary, steering operational work of the NGFS, approving the deliverables of the NGFS by consensus or the establishment of new working groups.

The NGFS Chair

The NGFS is chaired by Sabine Mauderer, Vice-President of the Deutsche Bundesbank.

The Chair, together with the vice-chair, is responsible for steering and organizing the work of the NGFS.

The Vice-Chair is Ms Fundi Tshazibana, Deputy Governor of the South African Reserve Bank and Chief Executive Officer of the Prudential Authority.

The Secretariat

The Secretariat, headed by Mr Yann Marin, is hosted by the Banque de France.

The Secretariat provides day-to-day operational and technical support to the NGFS Plenary, the Steering Committee, the working groups and Chair and vice-Chair.

NGFS working organization

In order to achieve its work program, the Network has structured its work into seven dedicated workstreams and taksforces and three expert networks (see What we do).

  • Workstreams are permanent working groups, operating on a 2-year mandate;
  • Task forces are temporary, project-oriented working groups to inform the work of workstreams and/or the decision-making process of the Steering Committee.
  • Expert networks are communities of experts gathered to share knowledge, exchange information and inform the work of the NGFS.

The working groups are set up depending on topics to explore and to investigate in depth.
