NGFS Finance Day Events: join the Network for Greening the Financial System at COP29!
As COP29 approaches, the NGFS is pleased to announce two side-events during this year’s Finance Day, set to take place on 14 November in Baku. Building on the momentum of the recent NGFS Cali-Baku Pledge, these sessions will bring together leading figures from central banks, supervisory bodies, multilateral development banks, and the private sector to discuss critical advancements and challenges in climate finance and adaptation. Both events aim to foster dialogue on how the financial system can better address climate change, with perspectives on both mitigation and adaptation efforts.
The morning session, hosted at the Australian Pavilion from 10:30 to 11:30, will focus on climate adaptation. Marking the launch of the NGFS Task Force on Adaptation’s Concept Note, this session will bring together experts from research, policy and central banking. The panel will explore the adaption challenges that face both emerging and developing economies as well as advanced economies, with a particular focus on the role of the financial sector in financing adaption as well as the role that central banks and financial supervisors have to play.
The afternoon event, held at the German Pavilion from 15:30 to 18:30, will aim to take stock of the greening of the financial system and highlight how the NGFS can enable climate action, with deliverables such as the NGFS Scenarios or the Data Directory 2.0. It will open with remarks from Sabine Mauderer, Chair of the NGFS, followed by a keynote from Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, on building a financial system capable of managing the transition. Subsequent roundtables will explore topics such as the role of regulation in creating an enabling environment for green finance, the utility of climate scenarios in informing climate finance strategies, the evolving landscape of nature and climate data. This session will culminate in a roundtable discussion on mobilising climate finance at scale, featuring prominent voices from global financial institutions.
The NGFS invites you to join these events to gain insights into the Network’s ongoing work and explore how the financial sector can strengthen resilience and sustainability amidst climate change.
The events will be live-streamed. Follow our social media channels for updates and live-stream links. You can download the detailed agendas for the NGFS side-events below
