As the global community gathers for the UN Biodiversity COP17 Armenia, the NGFS is pleased to publish its declaration, Taking Action for Nature: Supporting Financial Stability and Sustainability.
The COP17 Declaration highlights the growing macroeconomic and financial implications of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation, and underscores the importance of incorporating nature-related considerations into the assessment of financial risks.
The Declaration reaffirms the NGFS's commitment to advancing understanding of nature-related financial risks and supporting members in developing practical approaches to identify, assess and address these risks within their respective mandates. It also builds on the growing body of work on nature, including the Conceptual Framework on Nature-Related Financial Risks, the Nature Package, the Compendium of Implementation Practices, and recent analytical work on water scarcity and water litigation risks.
Nature underpins economic prosperity and financial resilience. Strengthening our understanding of nature-related risks is therefore essential to ensuring resilient economies and financial systems for the future.
